This page is for new or different mod ideas, not for requesting direct Ace2 ports of existing mods.

Roll Stats

I've always wanted this mod, but I've never seen or heard of one out there so I thought I'd toss this up. We've all complained about having the worst "rolls" on our server at one time or another. You know what I'm talking about - That awesome epic drops, and it's almost pointless to roll for it because you just know that someone else is going to get it. The concept behind "Roll Stats" is an add-on that takes the data of your rolls by either the in-game Blizz Need / Greed interface or the /random 100 call, and then reports that data back to an anonymous 3rd party stats server. A user can then access that WWW site and see the statistics of each server to find out who actually has the worst (or best!) rolls on the server... Do you really have the worst rolls on the server? Does your guildy always win everything? Now you've got the data to back it all up! ^_^

Slice and Dice/Rupture Bars+Combopints

What Im looking for is an addon that shows how long your slice and dice is up, how long rupture is on your target and how many combo points you got on that target.

This can be done by combinding natur enemy castbar, and a simple combopoint addon, but I was wondering if there were one who did all that.

Action Bars

It would be awesome if somebody could create an Action Bar addon that retained some of Blizzards original border art, or even implement some of it's own. It'd also be cool if they were more easily grouped together. As in, if we place BARS 1 and 2 together, they become GROUP 1, into which we could add or remove bars. This makes for a more easily moveable mass of bars.

AGUnitFrames BarSlider

This is just a very simple Idea that I had, It would simply slide the health/mana bars on AGUnitFrames depending on if I lost or gained health/mana. It would slide the bar very smoothly and not jaggedly using some sort of acceleration formula for the speed. I believe that this was once implemented in Nurfed Unit Frames. Being a programmer myself (with little knowledge of lua) I could imagine that this would be very simple to code.

AutoBar (Single Button Edition)

It would be nice to see something similar to AutoBar but for only a single draggable button that can be placed on the current action bar (such as BarTender3). Doesn't need to have the pop-up menu that AB has, but auto-adding and cycling through items from a user definable set (most powerful to least powerful, etc...) would be nice. Just to keep down on the clutter and make the whole interface mesh without adding yet another full expanding bar.

Free Floating Fubar Modules

Would be really cool to be able to undock fubar modules completely so that you can set them up anywhere on the screen without having to create new transparent fubars. The setup for positiong the modules is not ideal. I would like finer control of where the modules appear on the screen. I know this is possible because I have seen other mods with free floating buttons (Duckiebank comes to mind).

Another cool thing which would be cool from fubar is to have modules appearance be conditional. (such as HonorFu only appearing when your PvP flag is enabled).

Mini-map Icon Corral

Create a separate icon or box to hold add-on minimap icons. It's getting to the point with so many different add-ons that there is just too much clutter around the minimap. Icons are appearing on top of other icons, new Bliz functions taking up icon space.

Guild note auto-update

My idea/request is to have an addon that monitors specific things you choose and auto edits your guild note (if capable) and amends the changes (ie. profession skills, high crits, etc). I haven't done much addon coding at all, so I don't know what limits and capabilities are outside of a vague idea. Would this be possible to do?

Extended Friendlist

My request/idea is to add some features to the friend list. -- Enlarge it (i.e. be able to add more friends than the built in FL allows) -- Be able to track twinks (alts) of friends by grouping them together. -- Define friend groups, e.g. "old guild mates", "My Raid Group" and similar -- Add class and skill information (the information "druid" is not enough, is it a feral, a moonkin, a healer...?) -- Of course add personal notes (i know that feature is covered by other FL addons, e.g. auld lang syne)

Auto SEND gold

i have trouble saving Gold. My request is for an addon that would auto-send gold to a pre-selected toon. maybe when a threshold is reached, and I open a mailbox. ie. i reach 100 gold, and get to a mailbox to pickup mail, and the gold is sent as the mailbox is opened. so then i dont spend it.

Square Minimap Buttons

I was wanting an add-on that would completely manipulate mini-map buttons. You could make the the buttons square, round, on a bar, move them wherever on the screen or even completely remove them from your screen.

Death Snapshot

I thought of an idea for an add-on that would take a "snapshot" of everyone in your party or raid when someone dies. It would basically save each persons data, such as their health, mana, buffs/debuffs and if possible their distance from the person who died and whether they were casting a spell at the time of the death. You could then go back and review all of the deaths to help determine what can be done to help avoid them in the future. This would be great for raid and party leaders to help keep further track of the performance of their group.

Last night i had a look on what you're thinking about. By now I can say that some of it may work well, the only thing I figured out as would not work is to find out which spells the players where casting at time of dead. I may have a look at it soon.

Recount does something like this. If you select "Deaths" instead of "Damage Done", and click on the person you want to see, you'll see their last 15 seconds of activity prior to dying.

Expiration also lets you see how someone died. It's a little weird to read, and not completely intuitive - you do "/expiration report <player name>", and it prints to console the last 10 things that happened to that player.

I'd like to see an addon show the stacksize of an item on it's actual icon. The idea location would be right behind the current ammount in this form: $Current/$Total.

This would be nice so people don't have to mouseover and check it's stacksize in the tooltip

Auction Tone

Hello! I am trying to use Ace to write a mod that will play a selected *.mp3 file anytime a players auction sells at the AH. I am new to ACE and was wondering, is this an event that ACE supports? Thanks!

I believe that there is an ACE mod that has a wide range of selectable events to which you can attach your own MP3s. Although it's possible that I am simply remembering another mod.

MorgBid Plus

MorgBid - Client for allowing the raid leader to gauge interest on items in a method similar to a ready check.

Idea for Morgbid Plus - Would it be possible to have the raid leaders or members of a specific chat channel receive what item the player has currently equipped and what items are in their bags that match the slot for the item that is in question?

Its not possible since all files must be loaded at startup via .toc or .xml. You cannot load new files dynamically if the game is running. This results in an addon which have a HUGE memory usage.

You could, in theory load Playlist files (or specify one playlist file that can load other playlists) to facilitate this without using too much memory (actually, very little memory). the player would be using all the memory, not the UI. this is the same fashion mods that grab netradio work. the only difference is that the user would have to set up the playlist file in advance rather than the mod writer (and name it what the mod writer pointed to).

This type of addon already exists, even though it's not an Ace2-addon. Check out Soundtrack at It's very well done and doesn't use that much memory either. It works as tye said, you have to generate a playlist with a python script.

Isn't there some way to simply change or show the song playing in an external program, i.e. Winamp? Would that even work?
Not to turn this into a flaming thread, but "get a Mac and control iTunes directly without any mods". Though, I see your point and idea, one of the "features" that Blizzard allows with mods is not to communicate with the outside world, just internally when the game runs. It may seem like a stupid idea, but it saves having a gigantic influx of botters and cheaters being able to control or steal key-movements, and a plethora of other issues that can arise.

Voice menu for emotes

In a lot of FPS nowadays you can hit a key and get a menu of things to say, such as "Out of ammo," "Incoming," or "Need a medic!" WoW has a lot of similar emotes already, such as /oom /incoming /charge /healme and so on.

By now I think you see what I'm getting at. It would be nice to hit a key, get a menu, and be able to use it without clicking or typing. Where V is the key you bind for the menu, V-2-3 could be /incoming, V-5-2 could be /dance, or stuff like that. Maybe there's not that many and just a single menu would work, ie. V-M for /oom or V-H for /helpme.

Not sure if numbers or letters would be better, making it customizable would be nice, especially since some of us use different keyboard layouts. Perhaps a keybinding mode where you can point at one in the menu and assign it a key.

I'm not going to type out /incoming any time it is actually appropriate, but I would hit a couple keys. It would be very useful outside of vent or if vent needs to be kept clear for other communication. Also to just liven things up a bit. --Aeroxima 13:33, 3 June 2007 (EDT)

PvPfaction add-on

Hi I am looking at addon dev stuff because I dream of an addon that would allow me to track down other players faction on a PvP point of view.

For example, this add on would permits me to click on a player that just attacked me like a coward (15 levels above me, I was engaged, ...) and flag him "Garbage - To kill on sight". An other one that would have been nice (fair fight, fun guy, etc...) would be flag "Nice guy - Let him live".

Therefore : First, I would be able to keep a trace of my previous encounter and remember the name of people I met and what the "meeting" was about :) Second, I could imagine ways to share this kind of informations and then the opportunity to build a big database for a server concerning Real PvP Faction of players.

I hope you get my point (sorry for bad english if it's not the case, that's not my natural language ;) ) et would read your comments with pleasure.

DiggKarma is what I use. It isn't Ace, but it works pretty well. You can vote people up/down, and leave public and private notes.

Combat action graph

I had an idea where you have a horizontal scrolling graph of dmg done per second. As well, events are highlighted on this graph. Such as what spells or talents were cast/used at that time. I think with the current mods like swstats the data is there to be taken advantage of. see for a really horrible mockup . The reason i see for it, is sometimes you might see a rogue doing hundreds of more dmg than you but you don't know why, this would help you figure it out, so you can see what talents and things they use at what times. Other data could be added to this graph like the mobs health or state or aggro, or any number of stats.

Fubar - improvements

I was thinking if it was possible to have a resizable Fubar bar. I mean to give the possibility of selecting the % of the screen dimension that the Fubar bar should be. A 50% should be: |=====-----| where "=" is the fubar bar and "_" is empty space.

In addition the possibility of selecting to have fubar attached to the right or left border, give the possibility to NOT attach the fubar bar to the border (but still the ability to lock it, in the middle of the screen).

The possibility to give each Fubarbar a trasparency level and backgroud color.

The possibility to create a "spacer", a "separator" to set distance between 2 specific addons on fubar insted of giving a fixed distance between left/center/right placed addons.

New Sequential Keybindings

I thought of an idea to help make spells more accessible. If instead of using just one key to cast a spell, use a two keys in quick succession to cast a spell. Example(Numbers are keybindings,Letters are spells) Pressing 1,2 would cast spell G. Pressing 4,1 would cast spell D. There would have to be a short window of time to type the second key to make it work effectively, and avoid delays when pressing the wrong button. --Brandstone 16:34, 27 August 2007 (EDT)


Rummy adds- There's a non ace mod called mars bar that can be modified to work like this, it's difficult to set-up like this, but it is really good for those situational spells that you hardly use. Mine is set up so Alt-C activates the curses and the next keypress casts the spell, so Alt-C/S is curse of shadows, Alt-C/R is curse of recklessness, etc. Alt-P is my pet menu.

I too would like to see a proper add-on that does this, perhaps one that gives drop down menus as well. Rummy 02:53, 14 October 2007 (EDT)

As clarification; this would work well when using a game controller instead of keyboard and mouse. You only have so many buttons(Triangle,Circle,Square,X,R1,R2,L1,L2), but a combination of those buttons would increase their usability exponentially. You can jury-rig this using macros with /changeactionbar, but it eats up your macro space very quickly. --Brandstone 17:03, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

I think my new addon, Speedbar3 can meet at least a significant portion of this need. I originally built it to support chorded spellcasts using the number pad. For example, as a hunter, I hit numpad4 to bring up my tracking menu, then if I hit 4 again, it casts Track Humanoid. If I hit 4, then 6, it's Track Beasts. It also supports the autotimeout function, so it will go away if you don't hit a valid key within however long you configure it to hang out. Give it a try and see if you like it. Co-Healer Cast bars

In a 25man raid setting, we occasionally have trouble with tanks dying due to spike damage and healers getting the heals in synch. We solve this by watching hands or keeping an eye on the cast bars of the other healers via pitbull in order to make sure heals are staggered. I think an easier way to do this would be to have a mod that allowed me to see the named cast bar of people I define as co-healers. That way if a priest and a druid, or pally and druid or pally and priest are both healing a tank they can more easily see what the other healer is casting and how long till it lands. I think it would work something like ora2's tank windows but would be a healer window and instead of showing their health would show their cast bar.

Qaos:- This is a great Idea. Here are some comments about the mod that I think would be great.

1) Make it similar to MT windows (as stated above) execpt list all Healers and show targets a) This will allow you to see which healer is targeting whom b) Targets 'Name' bar would show current health. c) Targets window would have a 'cast' bar with text (or icon) stating what spell they are casting. (casting bar would show the progression of the spell being cast) d) Clicking on either the Healer or Healer-Target window will set your target (Just like "assisting the maintank by clicking on the MT's Target) e) Might be nice to have a value on the side of the target window to show how much the last heal was? or how much health is deficient, thus help with deciding which spell to cast?

2) Make it similar to Decursive window a) This would allow you to add, remove, or prioritize players that you want to see b) would have functions like 'clear list' (x) and 'show/no show' etc c) Possible have multiple windows set up for class? EG: all shammies in window A, all Pallies in window B.

3) Not sure if this is possible, but perhaps have a history of which spells you cast and how much they healed, and then use that list to "Suggest" what spell to cast based on casting time of spell, how much healing needs to be done on target. a) If this could be done, perhaps have a icon that you can click that would cast that spell. Could make it part of the "config" and require you to set up macros for all your spells and then the mod could choose from that list?

I really hope someone codes this. I think it would be a great help.

Altimeter (for flying mounts)?

Just a simple read out of how far above (some pre-determined sea level) you are. Or even just a readable Z coordinate for the current X, Y set up that most folks use. I always have a hard time telling when I’m ascending or descending slightly and wind up bumping into the ceiling or crashing into the ground.

The only thing to help that I know of are pitch mods. They will display your current camera pitch, allowing you to set your characters angle properly with the mouse. Try FuBar_PitchFu or for a standalone there is an non-Ace mod I use called Vodka Flyers. Doom0r 19:23, 13 September 2007 (EDT)

I apologize for not just replying (I couldn't seem to find that function anywhere) but I wanted to add my voice here. I thought I was alone in wanting this until I came here and saw this post. I wanted to be able to know if I was high enough to be out of reach of mobs so I didn't need to fly very high. Is there a WOw variable that already stores this information? the game must already know something about this as you don't find yourself constantly inside mountians and such :) - post by J-Man, 09/23/2007

Sadly when I made VodkaFlyers it was because there simply was/is no variable to read or function to call to get the current altitude :( Hopefully this will change eventually, but for now we are stuck with a pitch. I know pitch doesn't cut it, but I set out to write a altimeter and had to settle with a pitch display

I would imagine that with the correct math (I don't know how good the Lua math library is, as I am only a starting modder myself) this could be done, a virtual 'heght' created. Some observations:
  • As a Druid that likes to explore, I myself have touched the cieling, and just for grins, let my bird form go. Now, the thing I have noticed flying between 'zones' (yes, when I got bird form, I flew everywhere) is that each area has a different 'height' (Blades Edge is higher than zangar, which is higher than terrokar forest, which is higher than nagrand).
  • The math would involve point of origin, pitch, and distance traveled. The point of origin would be the coord you are at when you take off. Pitch is.. well, pitch. distance traveled could be determined several ways, though primarily through the coords system. You could a more accurate read by way of take off being 0,0. You could also use it's actual WoW assigned coord. that's the difference between relative and actual.
  • Setting 'sea level' would be easy. 0 is where you took off from (this would require a library of height map points based on coordinate). The actual 'sea level' would be the center of that zone's true city. as far as getting height map's, you would have to do all of the sea level 0,0 points. Then you would have to fly to each of the points you wanted to height map (most likely, instances and the like).

That's the Jist of my understanding of the whole deal. It is rather rough, time consuming, and looks bloated. However, I believe it to be a sound theory, if not actually doable.

I would like to have made - or instructed on how to make - an addon that allows me to see the lockpicking skill required for lockboxes, doors, and anything else that can be lockpicked.

I imagine this addon doing a couple of things:

-1. When someone goes across chat linking their lockboxes, and you click on it, you normally just get the lockbox name as a popup. The addon will allow you to see along with the name popup the lockpicking skill level required and my ability to open it.

The above would be: "lockbox type: required LP level - can I open" ie. Thorium Lockbox: SL-225 - Yes

-2. When entering certain doors and gates (for instance in BRD's first left hand gate) a rogue of good skill can open it. When you mouse over the door it shows the color coded word LOCKED. ie. red = un-openable, orange = difficult, etc. What I imagine this addon also doing is showing the lockpicking skill required for that particular door, gate, etc. when you mouse over it. With the same example, I know from experience that I need a lockpicking skill higher than 250 for the BRD gate. But if the gate were color coded with a RED locked popup, it would be good to see the skill level required with the popup also. Using the same format as above.

-3. It would do the following also. Similar to the !gem command, an !lock command would be available. It would be nice to have a tipping menu included with this, see further. When a rogue goes across chat saying they are opening lockboxes, another player can use the !lock command and link their lockbox, the returning result will show the player if the rogue can open the lockbox. The tipping menu option would allow the rogue to set his standard rate/rates to the lockbox type; ie. Thorium Lockbox - Yes - 1g fee

-4. And finally a small database of the doors/gates/etc. that the rogue has encountered could be available. I get asked several times if I can open the gates to instances such as stratholme. I can't remember all of them. Being able to get a popup menu similar to Mobinfo2 that has a searchable tab, I could type in or choose stratholme and it would list the number of gates/doors/etc. in the instance and if I can open them.

That is my dream. Can someone start on that, or show me how to make so that I can make it?

Raid Icon Kill Order

Ok so I don't know if this addon is already out there or not.

A window that is movable and resizable. It contains all of the raid icons and the mob, and status of said mob, that each icon is currently representing. I want to be able to modify the order of the icons in the window to follow my guilds icon kill order.

Also after each mob is killed, I would like to be able to just mouse click the next icon in the window and it will target that icons mob. Perhaps even flash a quick arrow in the direction of that mob, if that's possible, versus having to search the horizon for the next icon, or even remember which icon is next for that matter.

You could even throw on target's target info, but I'd be less interested in that feature myself.

This would not be a bad thing to have. Using Cartographers Waypoint feature may be the solution to your "...flash a quick arrow..." portion. Maybe automating the targeting would work too. So that after the Skull is killed, the diamond is auto targeted - saving clicking time - the waypoint flashes where the diamond is, and you run to it (melee) or cast away!
I imagine that tomtom's waypoint feature could also be used. --Lieandra
Auto-targetting cannot be done, "click the icon" targetting cannot be done, location of the mob on the map *or relative to you) cannot be determined, and there aren't even maps in dungeons... which is where raid icons are used 99% of the time. Or. How about something similar in function to VanasKoS, which puts a little box on the screen and places toon names in it when you mouse over them. It shows me (I'm Alliance) any horde I mouse over (that isn't stealthed or invisible) with the icon for there class. ie: "[shaman icon] Moomoo". Once in the box, I can click their name in there and have them as my current target.
But instead of it detecting Horde and alliance, data base the dungeon/raid bosses/mobs and data base the marker icons to show in the box when applied. Then you will have -example- the VanasKoS style box with "[skull icon] Illidan Stormrage", "[diamond icon] Flames of Azzinoth", etc. If a config option is put in it for instance. Then raid leaders could modify kill orders before ever entering the raid instance. There would be no worries of dungeon maps as the information is all data based. Go in, let marker mark, start fight, look on box for next icon target, click on target in box, and kill it. 17Oct2007--Lieandra

Another problem with this would be that WoW does not have a way of targeting based solely on the raid icon. If the mod could detect the raid icons when they are set, or some other work-around then it could set them up correctly. This would be very nice to have though; especially for CC and offtanks, and a gui similar to Grid would be beautiful. --Brandstone 10:48, 20 September 2007 (EDT)

You'd have to iterate through all of the units... player, party1..4, raid 1..40, and each of their pets, targets, and pets' targets. Every time someone's target changes, store the unitid of each unit with a raid icon in a table, and every time that unit takes damage, update their display. Problem is, I don't think you can detect the death of a target that has a raid icon, because when a unit dies, it gets untargeted from the player, although you could figure out which one died by figuring out which one isn't being targeted anymore.
If you can master that, then I was thinking of extending this to allow a raid or party leader to give commands. Assign the MT to tank a skull, OT to tank a star, mage to sheep whatever, rogue to sap whatever, etc, and assign each target a kill order. When the fight begins, every time a target dies, people get instructions on their screen as to what to do next, for instance when Skull goes down, the raid might be told to assist the offtank. Skill Menu +Keybinds

I had this idea for an addon that would save screen space for different classes. What it does is show one actionbutton, but when you hover over it, other skills appear above it (like trinket menu) and you can use that menu to set them as the slotted skill (having that slot keybound) or the active skill if it is an aura/aspect/tracking menu. There are two ways I thought it could be done: through fubar (as a pulldown menu similar to the tTracker or TrackerFu), or through bartender3. I've been playing my paladin, and with all the different seals I use, I figured this would be the best way to do it.

Another idea would be to have a feature where if you use a lot of these little menus, you can make them sort of skill sets like itemrack.

Minimap Icon Menu

I've got too many minimap icons, so i'm looking for a mod that will create a dropdown menu with all the icons. SO they merge into that dropdown. I saw it in a movie once. Was kinda looking for it =)

This functionality is already done in the Addon MinimapButtonBag


Well this would happen to be my first post... i was wanting to know if there was anyone or anyway.. i could get some assistance.. my guild has recently came across a Uk guilds addon and we are astonished with it. its an addon through FUbar called convergefu i guess what im reallywanting to know is if anyone could create or change up a few of the things with it.. such as the officers names when whispering for an invite.. or the raid kill order. and just little things such as that.. if someone could please get back to me as soon as they can i would be greatful. also ihave found the sites that contain All the codes for the addon..

Active/Reactive Debuff or DoT Icons

Sorry if this exists already. I'm thinking about a mod that works similar to a DoTTimer type mod (similar to the bar cooldowns that already exist within Quartz) and also Demon (or pDebuffList). Essentially, it shows the icons that a certain class can use to debuff a target. So for example, my hunter can do a Scorpid Sting and a Hunter Mark. It would show two icons, one for SS and one for HM. If I click the icon, it would attempt to cast it. Once it is on the mob, the button would disappear (or be greyed out). Once the debuff is about to fade, the icon shows up again (or is no longer greyed out) and a 5 second countdown shows up, similar to how OmniCC shows when a cooldown is about up. The button shows up, maybe flashes when the 5 second mark is hit, and becomes active. To reapply the scorpid sting before it completely drops for example, you can click the button.. Granted, I imagine the flash portion and cooldown portion can't be done if someone reapplies Scorpid Sting over my own. But the button can be come active/visible once someone elses Scorpid Sting fades.

Demon does something similar but doesn't have the functionality to reapply debuffs just to notify (usually a raid leader) when something is down. This idea would ideally not just apply to debuffs either, it could be configured (or configured at the start) for every class. ie. for warlock dots, warrior debuffs, stacks of sunder armor, etc. This is a combination of both in the sense that it's a different way to see the information and reapply the debuffs, dots. Dot Timer bars and such are great, but I find they don't work that great for me. This is another take on an old idea I suppose. I was hoping "ReadySpells" would do this when I read someone talking about it, but it isn't quite the same thing. That seems to only show skills when the cooldown is up. Please yell if you think it's a dumb idea or know of an addon that does the job. This is my first time posting and I'm hoping to start to look into developing myself if I can find the time with work and raiding.

Minimap graphical range view

Sorry, I don't know of a better way to describe it in a short fashion. The mod would display on the minimap the area of certain passive effects (totems, paladin auras). So say Windfury totem is dropped (perhaps the shaman would need the mod too?) it could send the loc of the totem and then create a circle on the minimap that is 20 yards out. Is that even remotely feasible?

BigWigs auto-responder

Hello, I always loved the auto-answer feature in DBM (DeadlyBossMod), and I really miss it in BW. I like BW much more than DBM tho, so not switching for the auto-reply feature. Is there anyone willing to add a BW module with this functionality ?

The main idea is to auto-answer something like "I'm fighting boss XXX, I'll reply asap" when in combat. Best would be also "I'm preparing to fight boss XXX, learn2check where I am b4 whispering" when bossmod is activated but not yet fired.

Of curse filters are needed for ppl in same raid, but this is obvious. I tested BossWhisperer and BossWhisperer2, but none met my expectations. Even AMP is lacking features (too less integrated with BW and doesn't handle WIM co-existence).

Anyway, it should be possible to make it a BW module. Anyone with enough .lua skills or a good suggestion ?

Hide Target Name

Hey, bit of a minimalist here, and the only thing I can't hide with addons is the name floating over my target. CameraPlus [1] gets rid of the target circle. Any way we can get rid of the name? Thanks! Achinfish 16:38, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

FuBar - Tooltips

I would like a mod that suppresses Fubar tooltips unless the individual plugins are clicked on. An option to toggle specific plugins to automatically show on mouseover and others to require clicking would also be nice.

Start a universal World trade channel

I think it would be a great idea to design an addon that would connect you to a worldtrade channel, i know your can just /join worldtrade but you can't link items and more in that channel. I propose to integrate that into a worldtrade channel with some sort of encrypted channel of some way. Please let me know what your think. This would be a great way to continue farming or some tasts you don't need full concentration and still get you trading needs at the same time.

Guild bank addon

I would like a simple addon that will display a list of people who has given or taken money from the guildbank and next to their name the total sum of money given/taken. Also, if possible, the ability to put notes on items in guildbank.

Assist Frames

I would like an addon with a small frame that showed group and party members that are targeting the same target as me (i.e. assisting me). Maybe have it configured to flip to a list of people not targeting the same target (i.e. not assisting me). X-Perl has this built into but a stand alone would be very nice as I don't want to load that very large mod for that very simple feature.

Node or Mini-map Notifier

When I am questing I tend to ignore my mini-map and miss valuable node and the such. I was thinking that an addon that sent a screen notification or even a chat notification that an interactable object is being displayed on the mini map. i.e. "Copper Mine detected" when the icon is shown on the mini-map.

Extended raidinfo

I'd like an addon to take the /raidinfo pane and extend it in the way AuldLangSyne extends guild and friends lists. Specifically I'd like to see it integrate into BigWigs to record dead bosses in that raid id.

Old raid ids could be kept in a seperated history list, so that you could see how far the guild got last reset if you weren't around.

Maybe some kind of filtering system so it can ignore heroics.

Theres probably more info that could be parsed into it as well. All of this would ideally be synced via the addon channel for people that wern't in on the raid. --Semi 19:38, 6 January 2008 (EST)

Crafting recipebook to phpbb

I've been searching and cannot seem to find anything that would allow someone to output a list of all their known crafting recipes including the reagents required into a phpbb format using item links. Many guilds have that dreaded "List your tradeskills here" post on their forums but most people just cannot be bothered typing all that info into there. Anyone done something like this?

HUD Idea

There may already be something like this, but I've looked and haven't found it. I was just learning about mods the other day and the loads of customizable HUD stuff and I was wondering if it would be possible to have the HUD look like the HUD in Kingdom Hearts. All you would need would be the characters picture in the bottm right corner with their health and mana curved around the image(and maybe even a thin XP bar too) and the same with party members only smaller and to the right. A bit more complicated though would be summing up all(or most of) the commands on the bottom into a menu on the left. If your familiar with Kingdom Hearts then you should be able to visualize it as well.

Shaman Totem Range

I'm wondering if it's at all possible to edit the graphic that I personally see for totems to include the range. I know that you used to be able to edit how things looked on your side, but I think blizz got mad after the tra la la video where people editted off the cloths...

Anyways if it is possible to still edit what you see, or a way to just add on w/o actually editting the visual, then I would think to have it be like the circle for when you throw grenades, only have it a color other than green if possible (to be able to better distinguish between using an item and if you had a totem down). Also if it could detect the +totem range talent or have a box to check if you have it, so that it could include that in the range (since most but not all shaman take it, being able to choose would be nice)

And the last feature would be to have this addon work with other people that have it. So if I have it and lay a totem, and a rogue in my group has it, he can see just how far my totems go (mainly it would just be checking for the totem range talent so that i knew the proper range to make the circle) and adjust his position accordingly.

Auto Bar with cool downs

After using a skill it would gray out, Once a skill was usable again it would Flash the icon on the middle of your screen. letting you know it was ready again. What i would like to see is something like that but be able to put the skills you want into the auto bar. Being able to control the size of the flash and being able to see though it would be a must, As well as maybe a sound for each skill.

TPS reports

WWS, SWS and other damage meters are able to keep track of your total damage output, damage output of specific abilities and your dps... why isn't there a mod to keep track of how much threat you are putting out? omen and ktm report average threat levels but are in no way accurate in depicting how much threat your attacks put out.

AFAIK Recount can do this; at least it has a Threat meter, and you can chose Overall data for it either. I'll try it in the evening if it is possible.

Affliction Master

I am investigating writing a new mod that will combine an action bar of pre-defined warlock spells (say Curse, UA, Corruption, Siphon Life, Immolate, ShadowBolt) along with the timers for each spell's DOT. This will also be combined with a green arrow to indicate which spell should be cast next, and a yellow arrow to indicate which spell should be cast after that.

With the 2.4 patch allowing spell haste to reduce the global cool down, affliction warlocks will become more challenged. It's easy to spam shadowbolts with a ton of spell haste as a destruction warlock, but maintaining optimum DOT uptime & efficiency (and maximizing DPS) will become more difficult with increasing spell haste.

So this mod's aim will be primarily at the logic of affliction warlocks. Perhaps if that goes well, it can be expanded to other classes.

Nameplates using DogTag

Aloft is a tremendous and useful addon, but feels very restricted (Tagwise) in the shadow of CowTip. The use of DogTag3.0 in an addon like this would be enormously useful. Cowtip is (it goes without saying really) outstanding, but by its own nature requires the player to hover over a unit. Floating dogtag info could be so much more beneficial.

Examples immediately possible:

•Separate colour set for nameplates of your own guild members (Ironforge becomes a more sociable place!)

•Separate colours/alpha based on talent trees (eg. Raid healers in green, Raid Tanks in Red)

etc.. My DogTag editing skills are limited, but even I can do the above. It would be akin to adding your own private raid target symbols to anyone you like. They'd be persistant, too.

Raid Icon Targeter

Now that we have access to GUID's of mob's shouldnt it be possible to create some sort of Raid Icon Targeting system?

A great ide would be some bar witch popped open as soon as a raid leader did put a Raid Target up, so that you could just click on the right symbol linked to a target and get that same target. But just a simple Raid Target Targeter addon would be a great idee!

Minimap Mark

A have this ide that would be a great thing to use in raids. If implanted in a raid addon like BigWigs och Deadly Boss Mods this would be very usefull. My ide is to have mark on the minimap that easily be changed to a diffrent location.

Example: You have devided the raid into 5 groups and every one of the groups need to stand on a specific location. So insteed of just having a quick blipp och the minimap, you now have a sticky mark that you should stand on.

No more standing in the wrong place!

LFG Ticker Tape

I would like to see a mod made that places all of the people in the LFG channels and LFM channels into a ticker tape that would scroll. Much like a stock ticker tape. The scrolling information should be 2 different bars. One for the LFG and one for the LFM. The ticker tape should only be active/visible when in the LFG channel.

The LFG bar would scroll each of the major choices, Zone, Dungeon, Heroic Dungeon, Raid, etc... Then each of these sections would then contain the name of the person interested in that area. A mouse-over of the name would show the basic information and their comment. This would allow a leader to easily fill the spot they have open.

The LFM bar would work very similiarly and contain all of the groups that are started and the leader's name. Mouse over would show the group composition. This would allow a person easily find a group/raid they are interested in and be able to contact the leader.

Raid confirmed Members List Synchronising

Searching for a mod that shows a list of members confirmed for a raidday. It would be nice, if this mod synchronising. All Officers could get one of this addon, so the members can ask them, and the addon send automaticly a list back to the member, where they can see who is confirmed.

View Bags as a list

I had this idea earlier today. What I am suggesting is an addon that replaces the current bag UI with that of a list: showing a smaller version of the item icon and the item name. Hovering over an item would of course display your average tooltip. The items would still need to be "drag 'n droppable" and could also maybe they could be displayed in alphabetical order.

Maybe also, each bag could have its own list in its own frame, but opening two or more bags would merge the frames together into one under different headings.

Raid ID Protection

This should be a short mod - someone once posted code that would do it (but no interface, needed cleanup) to the Warcraft forums (which worked, but I have since lost).

It would need a way to turn it on and off, through commands, a button, macro, or something. When on, it would detect being promoted to leader in a group, pass leader back off of you, and display a message to you that it had done so.

You have to be the group leader when someone enters an instance for them to steal your ID. Some other things could be added - basically doing a /who or outputting a location list upon joining a group, not interfering if you have no raid ID, etc. However, the basic functionality should almost guarantee protection for your raid ID - it is doubtful anyone could time it well enough to steal with such a short mod immediately passing lead (particularly if they didn't expect you to be quite so fast... and after they realized you probably wouldn't trust them to group).

It could also be added into a larger raid sign-up mod, raid ID listing, or some similar type of mod.

Graphical Macro Creator

Options would include things like a graphical interface such as dropdown boxes for all the options available such as targeting options, harm/noharm, nochanneling, options.

Then for spellcasts, a castsequence graphical interface would be awesome. The a bility to drag and drop spells onto a timeline that would take into account things like casttime and dot duration so that you could create a lengthy castsequence and be able to visually tell when during the cast sequence certain dots would need to be refreshed, etc.

Diekill Concerning cast sequences taking cast time and dot duration into account: Affliction Warlock DoTs have several different durations so, once the initial rotation is cast, you cast on an as-needed basis. Warlocks' haste not only varies based on gear but also on buffs triggered during fighting, trinkets, etc. You need something more sophisticated than a castsequence for a whole fight.

Preventing spam from NPC/bosses

I'd like the ability to "prevent" boss/NPC yells/emotes in the chatwindow if it is repeatedly done in a shorter time period, even if "Yell/Emote" is allowed in a chat window through normal UI settings.

Example, in Hellfire when someone doing a daily gets too close to aggro Lord Kazzak, he yells an emote across all of Hellfire. Some players seems to do this for the shear fun, and it isn't unusual to recieve a bunch of these emotes, sometimes for lengthy periods of time. Hence I'd like the functionality to block his yelling for a specified period of time, have there been too many in a short time period (both preferably configurable), after which he's "whitelisted" again.

Not sure if such functionality already exists in any of the "spam"-mods available, but I couldn't find it listed as a feature on them though.

Tab Combat Cycling

As a tank, I find myself tabbing through multiple targets to distribute devastates a lot. This becomes problematic when there are 9 targets far off in the distance that I have to cycle through to get back to the correct target. I was wondering if it were at all possible to write a simple script that would make tab select in-combat targets only.

I looked into trying it myself, but it's way over my head. The only thing I could come up with was to write a script that reads COMBAT_LOG_EVENT and waits for a SPELL_CAST_FAILED event with a "You are in combat" argument, which would then run a macro that does /targetenemy and /cast Charge. But like I said, this stuff is way over my head and I can't figure out how to implement any of this.

Heh, after re-reading this post i realized that my idea wouldn't work, as it would just endlessly cycle through everything in the room without stopping.. Anyone got any idea how to make this happen?

/console targetNearestDistance 6.000000 
/console targetNearestDistance 42.000000 

This macro will cycle through all targets withing 6 yards. Edit to suit your needs..

Standards and Guidelines

I've noticed a large inconsistency between the way different mods handle different things. Also, many addons overlap on features. I've posted the way I'd like to see things below. Please note that this is only my opinion. I simply wanted to put these ideas into the open.


If you want X-Brand tires instead of Y-Brand tires, you don't build a new car. Make addons smaller and utilize libraries that other developers have contributed. Following standard architectural guidelines can improve the portability of your code. My example below uses Tier-Based Architecture.

  • Presentation
    • Anything you want to show on the screen
    • This will be the face of your addon, what the end-user sees
  • Logic
    • Decisions your addon makes
    • Most "If" statements and loops go here
    • This will be a library. Other addons may use your logic, but provide a different presentation.
  • Data Access
    • How your decisions are carried out.
    • Talks to configuration, files, Ace, Wow, etc.
    • This will be a library. Other addons may use your data access method, but have different logic controlling it.


  • Organization
    • All addons should have a page in Blizzard's new addon configuration section.
    • If Blizzard's tool isn't enough, Rock Config should be able to take up the slack. Just don't repeat options
    • Try not to use menu-based configuration. It is awkward to use
    • Keep the slash "/" commands around, they come in handy
  • Values
    • Should have overrides (Global, Class, Character, etc.)
    • Minimize choices. The less you have to look through, the better. You can always have an Advanced section or use slash "/" commands for additional configuration.


Some mods require you to lock/unlock components before moving them. Some have you Alt+Drag, some Shift+Drag.

  • Have Ace decide how your addon moves. One less thing to worry about!

Look and Feel

While we are fortunate to have Clearfont2, other items such as colors, borders, frames cannot be configured globally.

  • Have a standard set of options that can be overrided by the addon if needed.

Visual Organization

  • Fubar has been great, but it has its limitations. It can be improved greatly with the following features.
    • Sizing
      • Discussed elsewhere. Basically allow resizing to show different amounts of information.
    • Control buttons
      • Minimize/Restore - become a bar only as wide/tall as the control buttons
      • Close - remove the bar (possibly confirm this action)
      • Pin - toggle autohide
    • Become a dock bar
      • Allow addons to dock their entire interface to the fubar.
      • Google Desktop/Yahoo Widget/Vista sidebar comes to mind
  • Launcher
    • Have a "Start Menu" for all of the addons that have a presentable interface
  • Task List/Tray
    • Have an area where running addons can be minimized to/restored from
  • Perspectives
    • Have the ability to group addons and bars into perspectives. That way you can quickly change your layout between questing, raiding, auctioning, etc.


Minimize errors by using Test-Driven Development. It's a pain to do, but the results are unquestionable. It is especially helpfull with scripts since you don't have compile-time checking of your code. However,the best advantage is the ability to re-run the tests at any time with minimum effort.


  1. Write a test to validate your feature works before you write the feature.
    1. TestAdd - Passes only if Add(1,2) returns 3
    2. Will fail since you haven't written Add() yet
  2. Write your method to pass
    1. Add(a,b){ return 3; }
    2. This shows you your test will pass if given the correct answer
  3. Write the logic
    1. Add(a,b){ return a+b; }
    2. The test should still pass
  • Never commit code if your test fails
  • When you discover a bug, write a test that fails because of the bug. Then change your code to make the test pass.

Persistant Database Module

A lot of mods use synchronization over some channel so that the data is, duh, in sync. This doesn't work terribly well when there's no one to synchronize with. If it is only for the guild, then there are storage spaces like character notes public and officer, and guild Info. For example, the EPGP mod uses the officer notes to store EPGP data and guild info to store policy type information. But these have character limits and unless there is some standardization, different mods are just going to confuse each other.

Is it possible to make use of the mail system? Here, each player will have a view of the data that can be out of sync until a flush operation at a mailbox. So each player can make the necessary changes they want to their view of the data and then head to a mailbox. The mod will then flush changes to a select list of players. On coming online, flushed updates can be received from other players by checking the mailbox. Effectively using the mail system to buffer synchronization messages.

The list of players can be obtained by several methods, 1) guildies with some marker in their notes, 2) guildies of some rank, 3) friend list with marker notes, or 4) manual configuration (i.e. add names to the mod, these changes could also be treated as data that can be propagated via the mailbox).

Lastly, the database should still use the data channels to synchronize with players that are online. This will limit the number of messages that need to be flushed via the mailbox network.

Guild Invite Whisper

I was thinking it would be nice if there was an addon that allowed you to send whispers a bit at a time to all guildless players of a certain level and/or class, like [Head Hunter] does for groups. Also would be best if it permanently saves people its sent message to (unlike Head Hunter saves it for 3 hours).--EdoDodo 01:57, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

extended item info

sometimes, when im looking at my inventory, occasionally I come across an item and im not sure of which profession may use it. I thought maybe an extended tooltip that included this info would be useful...

example: mouse over light leather, and then the tooltip will show what recipes/professions that light leather is used in, and the amount of light leather the recipe needs. I think this could be useful for your trade skills,those of your alts and also for figuring the stack size to sell in AH.

There is an addon by wmrojer called tradeskillinfo that does this. The mod description is kinda vague but does what it says --Welpis 22:08, 25 September 2008 (EDT)
